The first Canadian Authors for Indies Day on May 2nd, 2015 was one of the most fun days I've ever had working in a bookstore! We hosted ten authors - kids book authors, award-winners, memoir writers, mystery authors, and more - AND the Artistic Director of the Vancouver Writers Fest. Everyone brought such enthusiasm and passion to the day; one author even baked us mini-muffins to keep our energy up!
That day was also our first anniversary so it was extra-special and fun day for us. We're part of the Black Bond Books family of bookstores in BC's Lower Mainland we love being a part of the literary landscape in Vancouver. Being on the volunteer team organizing AFI Day and having it be such a success in my store made our first anniversary so much sweeter.
Each member of my team loves reading and recommending books to our customers. I read a lot of fiction, especially Canadian fiction, and YA novels; Talia reads literary fiction and non-fiction, especially short stories; James loves history and current events, particularly Canadian; and Melanee reads contemporary fiction and biographies. We all also love reading kids books, from picture books to chapter books, and we delight in showing books to kids and seeing them get excited about reading.
My team and I are already so excited for our second AFI Day; we can't wait to hang out with some of our favourite authors and see what books they're recommending this year.
